Just posting to make ABSOLUTELY positive it's done legally. My wife's ex wants to give her some of his guns. They still keep in touch and he wants them to go to someone that will "care" for them. He's in California, she's here in Indiana. Sounds like he's got 2 long guns and a revolver he wants to give her. My take is that he needs to go to an FFL and ship them to an FFL here for proper transfer. This correct?

He doesn't need to go to an FFL, HE can just ship them directly to your Indina FFL. An individual may ship a firearm to themselves, an FFL dealer, or a licensed repair facility, directly, without going through an FFL for shipment.

True, but many FFLs will not accept guns from non FFLs. Make sure that yours will before you go that route.

As already posted... The guns do not need to be shipped from an FFL. The handgun must be shipped via common carrier (UPS or FedEx) and not via the USPS. Long guns may be shipped through the US mail.

DO NOT lable the boxes as containing firearms, despite what some misinformed customer service people may insist on.

It may be worth checking what a local LGS would charge to ship it to the Indiana LGS. While it isn't required that they go through an LGS, most of the common carriers will charge and arm and a leg (like $70+) for shipping a firearm, because they will only ship it via super extra special priority overnight. If the LGS ships it, they can ship it via USPS (even handguns, because they have an FFL) and can do it for under $15.

So, if the LGS doesn't want an outrageous fee on top of the shipping cost, it may be actually cheaper to include the local LGS in the transfer.

So if my dad dies in a different state do I have to transfer them to myself in this state. And also if you move from one state to another do you have to do anything??
Yes. The estate has to transfer firearms to you if you reside in a different state, even if you are the executor of the will.

No. If you are already the owner of the firearms, you do not transfer ownership just because you move to a different state. But in some anti-2a states, you be better off selling them before you move there or even drive through.

If firearms are specifically enumerated in a Will / trust / etc, you should be "free" from needing to do an official transfer at a shop + 4473, across state lines, IF both states allow it.

What if the recipient in Indiana has a c&r ffl if the guns are on the list can they be legally shipped to his home address?

    Yes.

Don't forget "the list" automatically includes items 50+ years old. AND - they'll have to be entering in the recipients bound book.

Dealers may use USPS Priority mail for shipping to another dealer.

Correct - doing so is an invitation to steal.
