I read this in the Marion newspaper today.

I'm not sure why anyone would leave five handguns in an unlocked car for 90 minutes and expect them to be there when they returned. :dunno:

I thought I read something similar here on INGO a few months ago, but I couldn't remember the details or where it happened.

    Lawrence, IIRC.

She was on her way either to, or from, the pawn shop.

Two incidents of this kind, are quite a coincidence. Surely there is some manner of clearing house, where law enforcement keeps track of scams.

I remember the story from a few months ago. I think she was saying she had just bought them with tax money and was going to pawn them. I work in Marion and it is not a place I would leave anything of value in a unlocked vehicle.

When i worked at a dealership several years ago ,a man returned a rental car with an 870 rem and an 1187 plus a couple boxes of shells laying in the back seat.
We had to call him to come pick them up.
I'm just glad we didn't rent the car to someone else before we caught it.

So i must chime in. An individual should not have to lock his/her/its car. The automobile locking mechanism is only there to keep honest people honest. Those with ill intent are going to break in reguardless.

How in the world could you not catch the shotgun and ammo lying in the back of the car? Doesn't the rental company you know, say, look at the car before renting it again?

My Grandfather used to say, "Lock you car, and you'll find honest people. Leave it unlocked, and everyone is a thief."
