We all know that the grid coordinates of where you breathed your first breath are the single greatest determining factor of one's patriotism.

What logical difference does it make when considering the length of time an American citizen mother spent on US soil before giving birth to a child on foreign soil? Both children were born on foreign soil, not the magic soil we have here in the United States.

It may not be a perfect solution, but the issue of requiring that a president be not only a citizen, but meet the higher standard of a 'natural born citizen' was intended to prevent precisely what we have in the person of Barack Obama--someone whose upbringing produced a man with little if any cultural connection with and loyalty to the republic. The idea that someone who is born and raised in the United States would feel a much stronger bond than a transplant is perfectly sensible, again, as evidenced by the fact that the Kenyan not only does not feel any loyalty to the republic but rather gives every indication that he hates it with every fiber of his being. Placed in a position of power and public trust, the product is a natural born enemy of the United Stated, its Constitution, and its people.

Congratulations, you just described the bulk of Washington, D.C. The differences in Obama and Cruz's citizenship are minuscule and people are arguing as though its Everest vs the Great Plains.

If the magic birth on US soil is so damned important, we should all feel the same about Cruz. Instead, he's on our team so it loses importance.

I wouldn't say that. I will grant you that there are plenty of people who will judge what is supposed to be a matter of principle by team membership of record, but plenty of us will adhere to the principle that birth outside of the US eliminates the claim of being a natural-born citizen without further debate.

I will also stand by the notion that if the rest of us have to prove qualification in advance in order to get official permission to do most anything including the exercise of what are supposed to be rights not to be infringed, anyone running for office should be required to prove eligibility in advance of being placed on any ballot.

If Cruz meets the constitutional test of natural-born citizenship, he's eligible to run for the Presidency. And, again apparently, Cruz's origins and background are out there for everyone to see.
One could argue that President Obama's origins and background are out there for everyone to see as well. It seems to me that people who still believe Barrack Obama was not a natural-born citizen make a conscious effort to not believe the facts presented for whatever reason. The same standards that apply to proving Barack Obama is a natural born citizen should apply to any other presidential candidate.

I also find it curious that many of the so-called birthers seem to be OK with Cruz, even though it is proven 100% that he was not born in the US. If the fact that his mother was a citizen makes Cruz a citizen (according to Section 301(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act), then that same standard should apply to Barrack Obama as well since his mother was a citizen.

    1. Please do share this conclusive proof. There still appear to be more questions than answers. You may have noticed that for most anyone to do anything in our supposedly free society, proof of eligibility is required up front, so why is proof of eligibility for the highest office different? You may also want to explain why Obama has gone to the lengths he has to prevent anything that would settle the question definitively from seeing the light of day.

    2. Cruz clearly does not meed the standard of a 'natural-born citizen'. I would however raise the question of why he should be required to follow the law when a certain present occupant of the White House is in the habit of not doing so with this and several other issues.
