I got bad cramps just after I fell asleep many years ago.
It passed but I didn't know what caused it. A year or so later, BAM it hit me again.
Turns out what caused my issue was broccoli (not cooked to death).
I used to love broccoli & cornflour California blend. Not any more.

Good luck, and prayers from here too! I had symptoms like that about a years ago, they put a stint in my gallbladder, and then removed it, and haven't had a problem since.. Creedmore....alcohol causes problems?....who knew?.....

Right before bed last night I got some bad stomach cramps. Took some Pepto Bismal and sleepytime.

Wake up a few hours later and the cramps persist. Now some Tums but it still persists.

Decide I might have an issue so off to the VA ER I go.

Poked and prodded. Peed in the cup. Blood drawn. Finally a CT scan.

This is how I find out I have acute pancreatitis.

Now meds for pain and stomach upset. Up to three days inpatient with no food or liquuds to give my pancreas time to rest.

Just found out I need an ultrasound because I might(?) have gall stones, which the doctor wants to remove my gall bladder.

Fortunately I caught it early and didn't waste time.

For now just bored out of my mind.

Great way to start the week...

    Regards,

    Doug
I had this issue last summer. Not fun and painful. I have to keep from eating too much fat from meats and dairy. Seems like my stomach will not break them down very good anymore and it builds up into sludge and gas in my stomach.
Be careful because as time goes on you might feel comfortable about getting back to eating those good foods again and it will come back easily. Lots of water helps. Daily glasses to keep things flushing out.

Ultrasound shows I have gallstones. Gall bladder needs to come out as it may have been a gallstone that caused this.

Doctor put me on liquid diet yesterday for lunch. Coffee, broth, apple juice, and jello has never tasted so wonderful!

Only problem was that it was too soon. Cramps came back so no food or.liquid until Wednesday lunch.

Other than the cramps I feel fine.

There is some number that is usually under 200 for the pancreas. On Monday mine was at 2,688. Tuesday it had dropped to 850. So moving quickly in right direction which was why the doctor wanted to try.

    Hopefully home by Thursday.

    We shall see.

    Regards,

    Doug

So on Wednesday my count was down to 210, barely above normal.

However, my white blood cell count is very high, so infection somewhere. Just started first of two IV antibiotics.

I am hoping to go home tomorrow or Friday at the latest.

If I deal with lunch okay I'll be willing to try solid food for dinner.

It's been good to read all of the responses here. Thank you for the kind words. I look forward to attending a meetup again.

    Regards,

    Doug

Just a minor update for what anyone might expect going through this.

Today my abdomen is still a little sore, pain at about 1/2 - 1. Nowhere near severe but definitely noticeable.

Otherwise I seem to be in good condition.

The Metronidazole antibiotic has a nasty taste. I thought we were past this with sugar coating but I guess not.

    Regards,

    Doug

PS - Please note that only an American would complain today about the taste of a pill that is helping them recover.
