I've been amazed by the fact that the recent mass shooters who have lived to make it to court are guarded and escorted by armed guards. Add to this, the fact that all of our prisons are protected by armed guards.

Yet, America is aghast at the thought of guarding our children with the same care.

Yup. Let the mass murderers walk through Main Street unguarded on their way to trial.

Put the guards in school to protect someone we care about.

Let me guess, you're one of those people who defends the constitution wholeheartedly but still thinks we should have shot James Holmes instead of giving him his right to trial?

Yes, our children are our most important asset, but that doesn't negate the fact that we have a duty to protect those who have not yet been convicted of crimes, against lunatics that only want to believe in certain parts of the constitution.

    Good point.
But what's lost in all this is why isn't anyone talking about protecting our kids against the crazy wack jobs out there. Our society is full of crazies who molest and even kill children and many get set free.
Even if all weapons were seized, we all know killing by nuts will continue. Have they forgotten Timothy Mcveigh and the devastation he did with a fertilizer bomb? 168 dead including 19 children.

This country is firmly seated in a hand bag on the way to hell.

It amazes me how everyone in this thread stands behind the right to bear arms, yet doesn't believe in the right to a trial by your peers as well as innocent until proven guilty. All of you so called "constitutionalists" should re-evaluate your lives.

I believe in the right to a fair trial. However, in this case, it should have never gotten that far. The first officer on the scene, upon seeing Holmes holding a weapon and standing over the bodies of dozens of murdered children should have put several bullets into the "suspect" and saved the courts a lot of time and money.

I would agree if this were the case, however, he was sitting in a car, visually unarmed. He has every right to a fair trial and sentencing, as given under natural law and enunciated by the constitution. The fact that some emotionally charged individuals (rightfully so) could possibly try to take his life, means that he deserves armed guards.

You are correct, those were not the facts of the case and being a US citizen, that monster does deserve a fair trial. However, I still hope he gets whats coming to him.

They even put kevlar vests on the really bad guys. The safety of Public Enemy #1 is number 1. However, the people who are really number one in our society, our future, our children, are sitting ducks. The problem with the typical anti-gun American is this: they are middle-class, live in a suburb, have very little time to pay attention to uncomfortable topics; they are idealists, and they desire to live in their contrived utopia. In other words, they are out of touch with reality. If they don't arm their schools and protect their children from real threats, they can continue to believe that their fantasy world is a reality.

You can relate the same argument to Colleges. Right after the shooting I was driving by IPFW and saw the Campus Police patrolling like I have for years. Only this time it hit me, that we actually have police patrolling a group of adults, but we can not afford the same thing for our children?! No! Instead we make them go in Gun Free Zones. smh

he is proven guilty by the smoking gun in his hand. No need for a trial. Hang him. now.

Yeah, the point I was trying to make in my OP was that we spend so much time and money and resources to protect the evil in this world and America is shocked and stunned at the thought of protecting our children in the same manner.

How come these deranged bastards don't try breaking into and shooting up a prison?

And which smoking gun is that? Are you privy to information the rest of us aren't? I sure hope you aren't accused of a heinous crime someday. I'm sure you wouldn't like the thought of not being given a fair trial.
