Yeah thanks everyone on here your stories are what helped me feel comfortable with doing it myself. I used a S&W lower DPMS parts kit and the standard stock off of my olympic. It might be a hodge podge but its my hodge podge that I built. I didn't use any new tools though but I just bought some and then kept messing with that front detent and finally got it. I also used a magpul miad grip and the enhanced trigger guard from magpul as well.

Now on to the upper. Which I will probably buy pre-assembled but who knows maybe not. I just need to figure out what I want. I will post a pic when the whole thing is done.

    In the trenches for liberty!
That is pretty much how it started for me as well.
I bought my first one complete.
Second and Third ones I built the lowers and bought assembled uppers.
The forth one is now finished. I did a complete build on it.
I will probably go back and dress up my middle two rifles.
    Welcome to the addiction.

Congrats on building your first AR lower. :rockwoot:
It looks more complicated that it really is. If you decide to build more in the future, you should look into getting an adjustable clevis pin to help install the detent pin/spring. I spent more time searching for launched springs during my first build, than actually putting the lower together.:):

yes it is and a lot easier than I thought it would be. I used the brownells videos and they were very helpful in showing me the steps.
    Congrats! Building is fun!:rockwoot:
It was easer than I thought it would be on my first build too.
I used the tutorial on life, liberty, ect's range bag.
I was like muncie21 I spent more time looking for springs and detents than it took to build.
Here is the link for any one tring to build.

I'll be building a lower myself sometime soon, will probably have some questions for you people in spite of the videos. My stripped lower from Noveske should be here in a couple of weeks.

Very cool. I am starting on the buying process of picking up parts for my 2nd build. I built one lower, with the help of many, at the last Group Build Party. I hope to do this next one more on my own. I am the opposite of technically inclined. *face palm*

I've been considering a build for awhile now, for the uninitiated are there any parts suppliers that should be avoided? I would like to build a bull-barrel flattop with scope for longer range shooting. Of course, then I get back to my age-old problem of finding a place to shoot between 400 and 1000 yards.:dunno:

If you have even minor mechanical aptitude (can change your own oil, hange a picture frame level, replace an electrical outlet) then you can build a lower.

Highly recommended as it is a nice feeling when you get done and it works.
