A military combat revolver....I'd have to go with a .45 Colt or .45 acp...or something in .357 magnum to be worth-while! I'd say either a S&W Airweight Framed .45 or a Ruger GP100 in .357 magnum! Gotta watch the grip size as not everyone has large hands!

I was thinking either S&W or Ruger, it seems S&W has the most support right now. I wonder why them over ruger.

Rugers that I have had the pleasure to shoot are built like tanks. The problem with them is, they are built like tanks. When you are packing something around all day every day, and you have two options that will both get the job done, you tend to go for the lighter of the two options.

Phillips & Rogers M-47 Medusa. Built on the k-frame it will chamber and shoot 25 different calibers. Wish I could get my hands on one, but they are very rare and haven't been produced since the 90's.

I'd say a 686 or a 625 with 4 inch barrel interchangeable sight systems and a top and bottom rail would do it. Oh and both cut for moon clips of course.

I had the same thought. Mainly because of this video where I learned about the R8. I'm not a big revolver guy.

My vote goes for the S&W R8. Don't see how a wheelie can get more tacticool that that!
Wouldn't speed loaders have to be developed for them? As I understand it, only moon clips are available currently. Also, how would the grips fair for small handed individuals?
The 686 is good enough for the Navy S.E.A.L.'s, then it's good enough for standard military in my opinion.
Please tell me more, I never knew the SEAL's used them. Very good point!

    Between SB and FT.W
3 or 4in 38/357, except with fixed sights, adj. sight can be a bit fragile.

A friend of mine dropped my Blackhawk once and the sight blade broke off, a combat hangun could see rough treatment.

A Smith 581/681 or better yet a mod. 65/13, a fixed sight gp100 would also be great.

It is hard to beat a classic. Just ask the 1911 faithful. The most accurate pistol I have owned is a Smith Model 10. However, the military complained 100 years ago that the 38 spl. Caliber was insufficient. Best to go with a Smith .357, take your pick.

It should be a seven or eight shot revolver chambered in 5.56 NATO.
The barrel should be short enough that the overall length is similar to 4 inch barreled .38.
You have one ammo type to supply. If the bullets are under stabilized by a short barrel, they will be more effective as they tumble.

This revolver would need a safety on it for them to consider it.

The last JCP appropriations (if I remember right was put out about 10 years ago) only specified the safety on semi auto pistols which for us revolver fans is about the only ones being considered for service (if they actually go through with a new one which I doubt)

On a side note some USAF Security Police/Security Forces units used their S&W model 15 revolvers until 1991. When we got our M9's in 1988 most of us hated them being use to revolvers. At my base 0ur CC gave us the option to keep the wheelguns if we wanted. About half the squadron kept the model 15 about half used the M9. All of the B 52 crews were issued the S&W model 15's to include DS missions in 1991. So it wasn't that long ago.
