Shoot one of those light weight Marlins a few times before you decide. I have both 444 and 45-70 and both are good hunting rifles, recoil gets your attention with 400 grain and up loads.

We'll see about THAT. Picked up a few from a fellow in the sheepshead today. Can't wait.

[QUOTE ] Well how else do you see through the tube without the sun blinding you? Make sure you have a perfect seal around your eye before you bang that boom switch

Duh. That's how I ALWAYS do it.

    Not far from the tree
I . Don't want to highjack, but does anyone have a suggestion? Oh, and I hate shooting this thing off the bench.

No wonder. That rifle is almost perfectly designed to whack the snot out of you on the bench. 4X is plenty. A little 1.5-5x would be more flexiible. Mounted at the maximum eye relief, of course. "Scope Eye" sucks. Practice with lighter loads. Flinching is hard to cure..

    Could be anywhere
So, I just watched Wind River. Decent movie with disappointingly obvious Hollywood bad guys. It couldn't have been any more stereotypical if it had been Nazi's; and you know the first time they mention them they are the culprits.

Just be advised if watching it at home it is not kid friendly...for me not spousal unit friendly either. I saw it on an airplane and there were scenes that were uncomfortable to have viewable by strangers/kids (and I'm not talking about the shootouts) and didn't add anything to the story.

Other than that, good gun play and surprising solid representation of hunting...even if done by the government. Apparently the Indians couldn't hunt for themselves.

I liked the movie. Especially like when the otherwise clueless FBI chick's training kicked in.
