After seeing these folks create these websites and petitions regarding gun violence, I can only conclude that they lack education and experience in gun training of any sort. Reflecting back on my childhood and how I was raised hunting and the do's and do nots of proper gun "etiquette". Also years of military training, I get it! Yet in todays society we have these "urban baby boomers" that have never seen a firearm other than television. So it is easy to blame the firearm, manufacturer and anyone who would purchase such a "destructful assault type weapon". How could we ever think it could be the person behind the trigger! Skip the fact that they believe the next comet is going to slow down long enough for them to hitch a ride to eternity, or that the Joker got away with it and so should they. So once or if the Kenyan and his gaggle of tree huggers take away our right to defend and you encounter and armed person in your home or where ever, do I throw rocks, threaten with a club to defend myself or just "comply" and hope that he doesn't follow through with his delusions of grandeur?

Yes the same people that are not capable of taking care of themselves if it involves any more than going to Walmart and a gas station.
They have never used a shovel, built a fire or changed their own oil. And never will. Ok, they may buy a "fire log" at Walmart.
These are the same people that really do nothing. They go to morning meetings, send emails and make pie charts that are skewed to make it look as if they have accomplished something. The only people that can relate to the "nothingness pie chart" are the other do-nothing types.
No sense of reality. They have never experianced reality.
    And they vote.

Some of the people that are reacting to the tragedy have never experience crime or life threatening situations so they have a false sense of security, you can also add ignorance to the equation to top top it off.

I have seen this for years. I know so many of these people. They used to be referred to as paper shufflers. Now I call them E-mail Memo generators. I see these folks daily in my trade. I refrain from discussing my passion with firearms to avoid the ranting and raving that comes from them. If they knew I carried most would stop speaking to me and many would not let me in their buildings even if I were not carrying at the time. The media has succeeded at this level of brainwashing.
Yes, they do vote and are the main reason we have the big "O" in office. Look at the bumper stickers in the parking lots by the buildings they work at. If the had to face a life threatening situation the would pee themselves.

I agree with all of you. A lot of their perception of guns comes from TV and movies. In that medium, Guns are ALWAYS used for killing someone. And if these people aren't interested in firearms as a hobby or sport, they see no earthly good for a gun.

Where I was born and raised in the U.P. of Michigan, the first day of deer season was a school holiday, I kid you not. I think it still is, but I'm not sure anymore. While in high school in '79 I brought a handgun in for use in a school play. No one cared; it turned no heads whatsoever. After the play I passed it around to any of the guys that wanted to check it out, right there in the classroom. No big deal.

Try to do that now--it would make headlines. And why is that? What happened in the last 30 years that made guns so evil? Historically, I don't think we're experiencing more shootings, but we're made aware of them instantly. I dunno...

The OP started the conversation with Lack of Education. I'm afraid it's just the opposite. Too Much Education. I think there are some people too smart for their own good! My father in law, God rest his soul, used to say "yep he's smart, but he doesn't have enough common sense to pour pi$$ out of a boot, with instructions on the heel".
The more "academic" our society seems to get, the less capable it seems to be of "doing" anything.
Too many young adults have had too much handed to them.... Not even a differentiation in background in play here. Doesn't matter which side if the tracks you came up on.

My grand dad used to call them "educated idiots."

Hopefully the people I was just in school (specifically in my business classes) with will be more representative of the future. There were only 4 or 5 that I heard talking about how great Obama is and 1 that said she thinks socialism is great because it works really well in the UK. The majority of the girls in the classes had questions about firearms and 1 I'd have in depth conversations about our new guns or what we wanted to pick up. I wasn't the only one with Ron Paul stickers on my vehicle.

And OP, from the petitions I've seen, it hasn't just been a lack of education regarding firearms. Most petitions I've seen have been rather unfocused and looked to be written by 4th graders (pretty much from both sides of the debate).

Reading all the posts reaffirms the notion that, as a country, we are doomed. Eventually I believe we will go down, and what comes out of that will be twisted and medieval in nature. Our own inventions, that started with the age of enlightenment, will send us back to a new medieval period where we will be enslaved by ignorance and superstition. I believe we will be fed these superstitions by a government type body much like the Catholic church of old, and the punishment for not listening will be handed out liberally.

Pray and resist this as much as possible, for the cost of this ride will be far more expensive than giving up gun rights. It will be, in the end, the forfeiting of our human rights. Just my thoughts.

I was with you until you claimed Obama to be a citizen of Kenya. Do you delusional schizophrenics really believe this?

Let's say there is some huge conspiracy to enslave Americans...would they really pick someone who isn't a United States citizen and would draw speculation from the tinfoil hat wearers to lead that movement? Stop drinking the Alex Jones Koolaid.

That's sheep for you. Some people can not think for themselves. They hold on to every word of the Government and the Liberal Media. If they say something, it's the truth. Instead of doing their own homework and research. I try to see everything from both sides, before I make assumptions, sheep don't.

I am quite a bit older than you I'm sure, but when I was in High School in the 50's, on the first day of Squirrel and Rabbit season the class attendance was quite low. In fact a couple of teachers were often absent! Many students and facility had rifles and shotguns mounted on a rack in the back window of their Pickup. Others like me had them in the back seat or trunk. No one was at all worried, occasionally a teacher or other student would look over new firearms in the parking lot to admire or talk about their own.
