Yes, and for tossing out an interesting question, you get accused of inventing a conspiracy behind what apparently should have been a 'good firing'. Personally, I will go with the notion that basing an opinion on more facts rather than fewer is a good thing. I feel the same way in the courtroom regarding jurors being spoonfed bits and pieces of truth rather than having the complete body of available evidence to work with.
We have plenty of evidence to justify the punishment that he received in the form of a complete video.
Did he receive more punishment than he would have, had he not been campaigning in such a way? Possibly. I have no doubt that office politics play a role in the consequences of pretty much every instance of police misconduct.
Since he ultimately received less punishment than he deserved, this conspiracy theory is less than interesting to me.
