I have left-eye-dominant grandchildren. I am considering a Ruger 10/22 Compact for them. I have read that some have experienced hot gasses in the face when shooting a right-handed 10/22 from the left shoulder.
    What is your experience?
If it happens, is it more likely with high velocity ammunition than standard velocity (~1080 FPS)?
    Thanks for informed opinions.

The scars from the hot brass and debris have mostly faded but the memories remain from the 10/22.
I thought the one of the little Browning .22 auto bottom ejectors would be the answer until it ejected some hot brass down my jacket sleeve.
Definitely make them wear eye protection.

Once in a while I feel a piece hit my face. I did have a real problem with a dirty Marlin once. Out of battery discharge messed me up pretty good.

I've tried subsonic, standard, and high velocity. The only issue is high velocity suppressed, but it's nothing to worry about. Just a little dust on the cheek, nothing painful.

Thanks for the input so far.
Those that have had problems, do you know if the ammo was high speed or standard velocity?
Thousands of both over the years.
The 10 /22 is no worse than other .22 autos for a lefty I suppose.
Mostly specks of debris to the face and hot brass on bare skin from time to time.

The son only wanted to shoot CCI Stingers so that is what I kept around for him. I didn't get rid of it until he got out of the Army...

I am left eye dominant and shoot off of my left shoulder and have had a 10/22 for decades. I've shot everything from high velocity, standard velocity, and subsonic, all with and without a suppressor. I can't recall ever being hit with the brass. In contrast, being hit in the face with 5.56 brass shooting a Tavor I do remember!

I bought my first 10/22 in 1983, had about a half dozen over the years, never a problem with the brass, or gas....I have dumped brass on my son shooting his 10/22, when he is to the right of me. I've not even contemplated getting a left hand one, I have invested in the right hand ones, and I'm happy with it..
