    4473 is a must. Simply a CYA

    :noway: Quit it!

It is not a must - it's what you think is appropriate based on your concepts of the law and hypothetical situations. Do you even have any actual evidence, case law or even first hand knowledge to back up your assertion?

@LarryC: The only record of any transaction is the bound book kept by an FFL DEALER.

You said this twice in the same post, and it was wrong both times. The 4473 is also a record of the transfer and must be retained for 20 years. In fact the bound book does not contain enough info to do a trace and mearly points to the serial number of the 4473 for the transaction.

Agree, as long as it's in State, in a FTF sale, all I ask to see a Drivers Licence to make sure they are a resident of IN. If you get a bad feeling about them, ask them if they can legally own a handgun, or just don't sell it to them. You don't need a LTCH in IN. to own or transport a handgun to a range to shoot or travel home. This rule changed in 2011. Here is a copy from the INGO FAQ's section:

You can now transport your handgun to your favorite range without an LTCH, if the gun is in a secure wrapper, unloaded, and not readily accessible. These things have changed as of July 1, 2011. You will probably see old references all over INGO to having to have the LTCH to transport a handgun. If the post was made before that date, those references were probably correct at the time they were made, but are now outdated.
For further reference, note this Indiana Code, amended and effective July 1, 2011: Indiana Code 35-47-2

I don't know why folks continue to want to see a LTCH other than it makes them feel warm and fuzzy about the person they are selling to.
