Okay, so I was thinkiing about doing a knife build and posting the "work in progress" as I went along to show everyone my method for making a knife.
I will be posting pictures of each step in the progress along with comments concerning the process.
But I thought it would be cool if I let you guys have some input.
A few things I want you guys to recommend...

    Blade type:
    tactical
    or
Non-tactical (probably some sort of hunter)

    Blade material:
    Stainless Steel
    or
    Carbon steel

    Handle material:
    Wood
    or
synthetic (micarta / G10) also specify color

    Overall length:
    8 1/2" or more
    or
    less than 8 1/2"

    Bolsters
    or
    No bolsters

    Sheath;

    Leather
    or
    Kydex

Just let me know what you think you would like to see.
if there is enough interest I will do a pass around of the knife when completed...allowing interested persons to have the knife for a week to check it out and see what they think.
We will probably have to limit the number of persons involved in the pass around.
After the pass around, when the knife returns to me, I will then set up a drawing to give the knife away.

Let me know if this is something your interested in.
It might be a good precurser in light of the upcomming Casell grind in.

So....let me know what you think.

I would be interested to watch this progress whatever the specs. But here's my opinion:

    Tactical
    Carbon Steel
Synthetic - some bright, easy to spot color
    8 1/2" or less
    No bolsters

Looking forward to seeing the process.

You know I really love tactical knives, but after seeing some of your work I'd like to see:

    Hunter
    Stainless
    Wood (Something exotic or unusual)
    Bolsters
One of those awesome leather sheathes!!!!
    Under 8.5", maybe around 3.5"-4"

These days I'm kind of partial to smaller knives, so I'd like to see about a 3.5-4" drop point, about 1/8" thick, made of quality stainless, with a nice burl or spalted handle (also about 3.5-4") with mosaic pins. About 1" wide, with no bolsters, and a polished blade.

    Good idea for a thread. I really like Cubby's Kwaiken idea and would like to see your take on one of them. But then again I like the hunter and bushcraft style knives too. I think I would go;

    * Non-Tactical with a 3.5" to 4" blade
    * Good quality stainless (something like 154CM)
    * Black and Grey Synthetic handles
    * Bolsters - Your call. But if you use them - maybe a contrasting color of synthetic or a brushed stainless.
    * If you choose to do a sheath - Kydex

I don't really get all the builds with huge blades...giant choppers are so impractical compared to a nice 3-5" blade knife.

That really depends on the person. Most people dont have much use for a chopper unless they spend a lot of time out in the woods or around a camp.
I dont own one, but I sure could use one when I am back in the woods behind my house. ...someday.....

Right, and I have one too. But for every 8.5" or larger knife I have, I have 5 or 10 smaller, more practical ones. I know some people spend a lot more time in the bush than I do, though. To each their own!

I think it's just one of those things that you don't get it... unless you get it. I live in an apartment... I can't wait for the day I can throw $1k on a nasty custom chopper.

    Let's keep this rolling.
I'd like to see more people involved. Remember, you can get this knife into your hands and perhaps win it in the end!!
