    Sako made the finwolf.
    Savage made the model 99.
    Winchester made the model 88.

Most of these were 308 but the savages had lots of calibers. 7-mm 08 most likely not but you could have them rechambered/rebarreled. They are pointy round rifles. Other options are limited to round nose tube mags. Hornady leverebolution has made up a little ground in distance in old favorites like 30-30 and 35 rem.

A couple of options are about. marlin makes a 338 and 308 marlin express. Winchester made the 7-30 waters in the 94. Winchester made a 307 win. Most of these get you easy to the 270 (338 express) and 7-08 levels. The are not 270 or 7-mm if you are wanting to condense calibers.

The only problem with the BLR can be the trigger. I know a guy who can lighten them professionally but many smiths will not touch them. The browning will get you want you want even take down 7-08 that is sweet.

I thnk these are your main options for what you are looking at.

Thank you very much jmarriott, great info. I am not sure which direction I want to go. I am looking for something larger than my .243 but not real heavy on the recoil as I recently had shouder surgery. I would like to get away from bolt action for wild hog hunting.

Look at the marlin 336 in 35 rem.

They make great rifles for hogs. Balistics seem tame on paper, in the field they preform very well. Recoil is a mild but would be less that the 270 for sure and your shots are going to be closer on hogs than what your were asking about 270 or 7mm.

here is my 35 rem marlin SC from 1958 a good hog and black bear gun.

    My savage 99 in 308.

and the browning BLR in 308 (Mine is the older all steel version)

For hogs of these three I would most likely carry the marlin.

I will give the 35 a look. What is the range of the 35.The hunt club I was at had stands with 200 to 300 yards shots. I was told to only ear shoot hogs with the .243 unless I was within 100 yards. I took a 336 in 30/30 they told me no one has ever shot one ther with a 30.30 so it stayed in the case.

Personally 200 yards on the 35 rem but i use 200 grain rem core loks as they group great. If you can get the leverevolution or the 150 grain core loks i bet you could get more distance. Hog hunting when i have done it was spot and stalk in heavy brush. with running shots very likely. I don't hunt hogs much but I have never seen anyone do it from a stand. Dogs and still hunting were the ways we did it.

this one get the call for up close and personal under 100 yard shots. 44 mag.

The ones listed in 308 will do 300 yard shots. The finwolf, savage 99, win 88, and BLR should all be able to take elk out to 300 so a hog should be good to go. The 35 rem at 300 is going to have to be held over the top of a pig at 300 yards.

As far as the 30-30 and hogs i am sure a lot of them have been taken with one. The 35 rem is a 30-30 on steriods. The marlin in 308 express might be the best lower budget option as it gives you 308 power and since it is still in production is going to cost less than the finwolf, savage 99 or win 88. Browning in any caliber you want to use is also still made.

The savage 00 gets a little getting used to as I think they are a bit on the ugly side. That is until you start to shot them.

Thank you for all the info. I did not know what to expect on this hunt so I took the 3030 and the .243. I though it would have been as you said close range hunting and my 3030 iron sights would be the ticket.
This place was 9000 acres with field feed plots for deer put out in 3 to 4 acre plots surrounded by swamp or thick brush. The stands where the box type 25' up.

I will look hard at the 35 rem and the new Hornday ammo.

Thanks again you have been allot of help. I may be gettting back to you with more questions.
