I am fairly new to hand-loading. What would anyone recommend for a light target load in a S&W 625 45acp? I hope to find a clean burning powder to go with the 200 grain FMJ bullets I just bought.

    Thanks.

A .45ACP revolver would be neat, never heard of one. My GF carries a .380 revolver so I guess it'd be similar. Very cool OP!

titegroup smokes a lot with lead. PowerPistol smokes a bit and makes a lot of flash....dirty as **** if not loaded hot. w231 is ok.. WST is the best

I can concur with titegroup. I was loading LRN with 4.3/4.4 grains and if I tried to shoot several shots in a row, I'd have to stop and let the smoke clear!:) I'm not sure as I am a new shooter, but my gun(1911) got really dirty after about 150 rounds as far as I was concerned.

But it seems like a lot of people use Titegroup. My brother does almost exclusively but he shoots a lot of FMJ bullets.

I was all set to switch to FMJ RN but I thought I would try some 200 gr. SWC to see how they work.

Tag for interest. Anyone using titegroup for a 200 gr. lead SWC?

My Two light loads with 200 grain Lead Semi wadcutters are as follows: 4.0 Gr Clays or 4.2 gr TiteGroup, both loaded to 1.260" OAL

I use it in the full sized 1911, the Officers model and the 625 revolver, with good accuracy and function. Because of the lube, cast bullets are dirty and smoky. Copper plated and teflon coated cast bullets are a lot cleaner.

    Good Luck

Seems like I have a few of those very same projectiles to load up and try. One day this Winter, I will do that! Or maybe sooner...

I don't have or shoot a 45. But I found load data for IMR Trailboss. I wonder if anyone has experience with this powder. I just got some, but haven't used it yet.

4.2 grains of v320. 230 grain moly. Gives me 172 power factor in my 625. Burns clean and not as hot as tite group.
