Was informed by my Doctor at IU Health Lincoln Avenue Family Medicine, that firearms are not allowed in the building. Funny thing is, I wasn't even armed today. This comes from a conversation last week between The nurse and myself, in which I said " I don't like having my back to the door". (Situational awareness and all) I told her it would be a little different if I was armed, and the little sheep went and told the Doctor. Looks like maybe a new doctor is in order.:dunno: She also asked me if I thought someone was going to hurt me... LOL.

Under the new health care laws, your doctor has informed the authorities that you are a paranoid and dangerous person, unfit to own firearms.

You should expect a polite knock (read: bust down) at your door shortly.

It wasn't my family doctor, just a workman's comp referral for a specialist. The nurse/receptionist glanced, but didn't say anything. The follow-up she made a scene about it, acted like I was a criminal. On the way out she said signs would be up next time, and doctor was there, and said not a word. Doctor was alone in room w/ me and also didn't mention anything, so he obviously didn't care. He was just tending to his herd. Doesn't want to fire an employee. My appointment was the beginning of this month, and I didn't get a confirmation call or anything asking why I didn't show up. So she must have listened when I said I would have to find a new doctor.

Some folks just don't need to know your thoughts, and should not know your thoughts, especially when it comes to firearms. Given the current trend of invasive over-reaching government controls, including health care, making comments like that to a nurse who you neither know nor trust during a medical visit is not in your best interest. In that situation, situational awareness should also include awareness of the current state of the healthcare profession - i.e. totally FUBAR. If they don't have a need to know, then its none of their business. If it's none of their business, then they don't have a need to know.

Furthermore, an office which previously did not have "no guns" signs posted will now. Thanks to you. What did you accomplish? Did you cast a favorable light on gun owners? uh...no. The context in which you discussed being armed would have touched off my situational awareness and I talk about guns all the time. I definitely would not have thought you were a hotshot, I would have thought you were a little creepy and needed to be watched. I probably would have told YOU not to bring a gun in there even if I allowed carry for others.

    Social skills. you need them.

The immediate care center in Carmel that my wife and I went to for her cough had a 8 1/2 x 11 bilingual "No firearms" sign thumb tacked next to the reception desk.

I thought about telling them off and leaving but I left it alone because of how late it was on a work night (for her).

if anyone cares it was the St. Vincent Immediate Care Center at 136th and Hazeldell

She can and will ask if you are scared, afraid of being hurt, annoyed etc and then run and tell on you. Then they will investigate you. Then when they are satisfied you are not a threat you will be on record as having been looked into. They are empowering themselves over you.
Never.....ever tell nurse Hathaway you are armed or considering it. Libs, they want you to feel good, safe and disarmed.

You are assuming that these are anti-gun libs. I'd say 50/50 he just came off as being "weird." How many posts are there on INGO about people being praised for the their Situational Awareness for noticing "weird" behaviour. Now, if you are the staff at that office and a guy is acting "Weird" and talking about wanting to be armed if his back is facing the door what can you do? I think their response was fairly reasonable in context. Its not like his CC got noticed and they commented on it and then banned it. Which would have been a liberal move. No, he brought it up in a way that drew negative attention. Its his own fault. And now anyone that used to carry there will be violating the policy posted on the door. Fail.

guess its a good thing I don't get surprised easily then :D

    :D

One of my pet peeves when people do stupid things and then rant when everyone around them doesn't think they are the ****.

OR in a slightly different vein, when they do things they KNOW will draw attention and then get pissed when some of the persons giving them attention do not think they are the ****.

now that I can completely understand. Honestly I rarely go to the doctor but I don't plan on any type of firearms conversation if I do.

I would agree! First I know the nurse pretty well, and she asked me why I moved chairs(busy waiting room). I jokingly said I don't like having my back to the door when I'm not exercising my 2nd Amendment right. Lesson learned on my part(don't trust anybody) Second the doctor asked if I was armed today to which I said no why, she explained the building was a no gun zone and if I felt like someone there was going to hurt me. I laughed and replied no and that was the end of conversation. So as far as being weird anyone on Ingo who has met me knows I'm not any different than the next guy. As far as being checked out by the Gov. I am far from hard to find... Viperjock thank god I didn't buy any Chinese made skin from wal-mart.

People like that would have handled an OCer the same way. If they don't like firearms, they don't like firearms. The OP talking about them is not going to be seen as weird, and cause them to change their policy. I OC to my dentist, and doctors and nobody has ever said anything except that one receptionist lady at the specialist I saw. And I was on my 2nd visit at the time. Doctors need to clean house and get rid of the mouthy people whose sole job is to answer the phone. They have no authority to question anyone about firearms. They don't own or manage the property. That goes for nurses too. Any business owner that has employees costing them customers, needs to sack the employee.
