I have a friend that is keeping me in steady supply of once fired 308 brass (Federal Gold Match, 168 gr Sierra Match King). I'm wanting to work up a load for my Springfield Socom II M1A. The barrel is 16" 's with a 1:11 twist. Most of my shooting is well within 200 yards since I'm only running a 2X magnified Aimpoint CompM2, but I would like to keep my shot as flat as possible. I don't want to run anything too hot and damage the operating rod, and have mostly shot MIL-surplus ammo in the past. Any suggestions or stories of past experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :patriot:

No experiance with loads for a 16" barrel.
There is a guy on the M14 forum that goes by RAMMAC that has a SOCOM and a good load that also has low muzzle flash. I've been meaning to quiz him about it, but haven't gotten around to it yet. You might contact him and see what he's doing. He's a pretty good fella and seems to take his SOCOM and loads pretty serious.
