I have a question about both of these and I'm hoping someone could help me out.

    For the 22-250:
Im gonna start reloading 22-250 for my step dad and I'm curious about bullet weights for this rifle. He has a Savage Axis with a 1:12 twist barrel. Would that twist be good enough to stabilize 55gr bullets? I have quiet a bit of 55gr bullets for my .223 and it would be nice if i could use those. I just want to make sure it will stabilize them.

    For the 6mm Remington:
Im thinking about reloading for this because I hate paying 30 dollars for a box of 20 rounds. I am just curious about powders for this. I checked around and I was curious if i could use H335 for this? I cant find any load data for this particular round and I was just curious why. Is it too slow of a powder? Because the H335 can be used in the 22-250 just fine and those move close to 4000fps. The 6mm I want to load around 3500fps. So does anyone know why this powder isnt listed?

55's will work fine in a 1:12 twist but goin into the 60gr bullets it will start to show effects stay at 55 and below and it should do fine. I not familiar with the 6mm remington so maybe some one else will weigh in but I would assume that since the 22-250 and 6mm are similar case capacities it may work find out for sure tho.

Yes, 1:12" will work for 55gr bullets, but probably not heavier.

Actually I would think H335 would be too fast for the 6mm (which has a barrel burning reputation), but it's right near Benchmark and 3031... but I wouldn't use those either. Nor would I use them in the .22-250.

To answer the question directly I don't know why Hodgdon doesn't list data for H335.

I would probably start somewhere near 4895 (fast end) and stop somewhere near 4350 (slow end) for both rifles. But that's just a guideline and not a recommendation. And it would depend on the bullet weight too,

H380 (38 grains of such, under a 55gr bullet, is how the powder got its name) is a great choice for the 22-250. H335, as Kludge suggested, is really too fast for the 6mm Remington and not all that great for 22-250, either. H4895 or Varget would be a good powder to cover both, but the 6mm Rem. really cries out for something slower. Truth be told, 4350 is not really the slowest suitable powder...but it would be closer to ideal.

You mention getting 3500fps from the 6mm, which suggests you're looking at a fairly light-for-caliber load. In that case, 4350 is probably a very good choice and you'll be in good shape with the other, faster powders mentioned, as well. For bigger bullets, 100 grains or so, stick with 4350 or slower. :twocents:

I've loaded IMR4064 in my 6mm's for 25+ years, 4350 will work, never seen H335 as a good choice.

I wouldn't think it would be the best choice for a 22-250 either.

Hodgdon manual no. 26, print date 1993, list H335 for 6mm Rem. 70 and 75 gr. bullets starting load 38.0, max 42.0, 3450 fps. I'v never tried H335, My best load for 6mm Rem uses H4350. Same manual 22-250 55 gr. bullet H335 starting 30.5 gr. max 33.0, 3590 fps.

I appreciate it! I think I'm going with 55gr in the 22-250 and 90gr or 100gr for the 6mm. I'll probably buy a pound of each and see which one works out best. I'm gonna try the H335, Varget, and probably the 4350.

Thanks for this data! I'm gonna use this to start my test loads with the H335
