Local Gun Shop To Hold Free Children Safety Course
Indianapolis, Indiana September 19,2011 – Indy Trading Post will be offering to the public the NRA’s Eddie Eagle Gunsafe Program for free on Saturday September 24th, 2011 from 11-5 p.m. Classes will be held every 30 minutes. All materials for the program will be provided as well as a free slice of pizza to all participants, which will be provided by Papa John’s. IMPD South District will be helping with the program as well.
The Eddie Eagle GunSafe program was started in 1988.
The program has reached more than 21 million children in all 50 states. This program was developed through the combined efforts of such qualified professionals as clinical psychologists, reading specialists, teachers, curriculum specialists, urban housing safety officials, and law enforcement.
The purpose of the program is to promote gun accident prevention for children in pre-K to 3rd grade by teaching a simple safety message so they know what to do should they come upon an unsecured firearm: Stop! Don’t Touch. Leave the Area. Tell an Adult. The program teaches children that guns are not toys, and makes no value judgment about whether guns are good or bad, but promotes safe behavior.
There have been several 100% preventable shootings involving children under the age of 18 over the past several months. All gun owners should take gun safety seriously. With a program such as Eddie Eagle, many of these accidental shootings can be prevented. Indy Trading Post will offer this program free of charge in hopes of teaching children what to do when they come in to contact with a firearm. They also hope to be able to offer the program on a regular basis at their location as well as area schools.
Indy Trading Post is a gun and knife dealer located at 2851 Madison Avenue on the Southside of Indianapolis. Indy Trading Post is locally owned and operated by Brian Ludlow and his family.
