My apologies if this covered elsewhere. I searched, but didn't see what I want to know.
I was told that some gun shops and retailers like Gander Mountain will handle your application and the wait is really short.
Is this true? And do you still have to get a LEO to do your fingerprints?
Fill out the paperwork and then go to your local police department, if you live in a city. If you don't live in a city, go to your local Sheriff's department. They will start the process.
However, I would suggest looking up L1 and use their services, because it is much quicker. I'm on my 6th week of waiting...because I didn't use L1, which is generally a week to ten days.
Yeah, if you go to Indiana State Police's website, you can fill out the application there, and schedule an appointment with an L-1 processor and you will get it in about 10 days. It's crazy fast.

I applied for mine on aug 16 (2012) online and used L1. Went to Vigo Co. Sheriff Dept. and they pulled up my online application and printed it. I applied for a 4yr since a Illinois resident cannot get a lifetime permit. I paid the state fee through L1 online and then paid the local fee at the Sheriff's office. Mailed it all out later that afternoon. I will update when it arrives in the mail.
