    Something I am looking at & considering the pros & cons of each. I may not get either so the discussion is more academic.

    Upon surface research, my perception of each is;

    338 LM
    advantages;
    1. standard reloading presses
    2. initial rifle cost
    3. "seems" to be more accurate at long range (my perception)
    disadvantages;
    1. expensive factory ammo
    2. more expensive reloading components

    50 BMG
    advantages;
    1. factory ammo more accessible and cheaper
    2. reloading components more accessible and cheaper
    disadvantages;
    1. initial rifle cost
    2. special reloading press
    3. less accurate (my perception)

    My perceptions may be inaccurate, other than that what am I missing?

    thanks

    If I had to do it over again I'd go with 50BMG for the reasons you stated above about being cheaper to shoot.

    You can find 50BMG rifles for under $2200 nowadays so it's right around the same price as the Sako.

    My son has the Sako M85 LR in 338 Lapua Magnum at his house nowadays.
