I would like some suggestions on a small-lightweight carry gun with a manual safety in either 40 or 45 cal. I have a Kahr MK-40 in stainless and it weights too much to be comfortable for me. Tried the Ruger LCP and that is not for me either due to the lack of a manual safety. Having a manual safety is important to me in my choice. Suggestions anyone?

I'm not aware of anything in .40 or .45 and the size of an MK40 that has a manual safety. In the next-larger size class is the Taurus PT140/145. The M&P40C can also be had with a manual safety. Or if you like a 1911 style pistol, there's the Springfield EMP.

Here you go a Kimber Tactical Ultra II (3" barrel) (I always take every opportunity to show it off :D)

    Kimber_TU_005.jpg

Seriously most of the 1911 manufacturers make a compact 1911 that would certainly meet your needs.

Whoops just re-read your post and the requirement for light weight, even though my Kimber is aluminum framed it is heavier then your Kahr. My bad

What about the PARA PXT HAWG?

This looks like it can do the job, anyone know about these?

Have you seen Kahr's new PM9? It has a manual safety. I assume this means they'll be offering the 40 and 45 versions within a few months.

If you're wanting slim, why not the single-stack Para SlimHawg? You could also go with the LDA(light double action). Safety, double-action, and a 45.

On Para, I've never heard a bad thing about them. A friend has a single stack LDA, the trigger is SWEET, and if it wasn't for the $1k price, i'd have one for carry. And i still probably will in the future, the PDA.

For several years I carried a S&W Chief Special .40. It is a steel frame Single Stack 6+1 with a manual safety. This is a 6 1/4" 20 oz weapon.

I since replaced this as my carry weapon with a Springfield .40 sub.

For a manual safety weapon I would recommend the CS40 based on my experience.

If you woouk like to test this weapon give me a PM

My son just picked up a Bersa Thunder 45UC and so far, it has been pretty nice. It's probably not the smallest or lightest of the bunch, but it can put a nice group at 15 yards and seems to be well made.

I really like the Warthog but the double stack magazine (10+1) makes it bulky and a bit heavy for carry.

The Kimber Ultra line is slim, small (3" barrel), and reasonably light. The Springfield Armory Compact line is another that you might explore. That all being said, there are several suggestions (including the Warthog) that are good.

    Found the springfield XD40

Does this have a manual safety? Specs are sort of cloudy on it, says grip safety. This looks a good size. My Kahr MK-40 in Stainless weights 27oz with a loaded clip of five rounds but feels a log heavier than this. This one weights the same as my Kahr and is polymer but holds three more in the mag. Anyone hold or shoot one of these?

These are nice but they are a double stack. They feel too fat in .45 for my hands.
Another vote for a Kimber Ultra. The wife has a 3" Ultra CDP with the alloy frame. Very light and a great shooter.
