I love my Duramax! Used to drive a Ford, and like the OP said, I am a Silverado driver for life now.

I love my Silverado. 2006 4door 6.6l Duramax, 4x4, 6 speed, captains chairs, Bose sound. Love it. I put a leveling kit on it and 33 in BFG All Terrains on it. Plan to put a mild tuner on it for milage and when I tow heavy. I used to be a Ford guy but don't like the new Powerstokes, looked at some Dodges when I bought this and I made the right choice in the Chevy. I just drove 4500 miles to California for an off road race in a dodge with a trailer with our race buggy in it...it towed pretty awful, wasn't all the comfortable inside, steering is bad, ride is bad, brakes are bad. Chevy's are good. Really made me happy I went Chev over Dodge.

New tow mirrors, tires, leveling kit.

The 5.3 has considerably more power than the 350 ever had. What do you miss?

The 350 Vortec vin R was rated around 255hp and the base 5.3 is rated for 285hp. So 30hp difference and the key difference is WHERE that HP happens. Ill give you a clue...the 5.3l's peak HP happens at a higher rpm than the 350's. ;)

Been driving my new to me 09 Silverado 4X4 now for 2 weeks. I love it. Cut some 2X10 to create bed dividers in it. Can't wait to finally have a truck for hunting season. I have been sick of putting on my hitch hauler and taking it off each weekend.

So far it runs like a dream. Slightly hard shift from 1-2 on the upshift at slow speeds but I read online that the transmission learns your habits when new so I assume it would need to do the same for a new driver.

I think I might be a silverado driver for life now after my explorer crapped out on me.

1-2 hardshifting can also be caused by sticking valve in valve body and/or a busted 1-2 accumulator spring. Which the spring is very common and relatively cheap to fix but requires the tranny pan to be dropped.

Hit the nail on the head.

I also miss being able to work on it with out a laptop and all the other fancy gadgets. I may be young, but I still prefer old school when it comes to my engines.
