I always assumed CCW referred to Concealed Carry Weapon... meaning:

"The littluns I carry. Not the biguns that I need a thigh rig for."

I didn't realize folks equated that to the LICENSE, as applied in other States like my permit from UTAH which is a CFP.

    Concealed Firearm Permit.

See even you put the word permit in there. Fact of the matter is it really isn't something to stress yourself out over, because if you correct someone the're not going to understand and they're going to look at you like your an idiot. Most people just don't care...

No they look at the license and get the Mr. Obvious caller remark (for Bob & Tom fans) "Gee I never made the connection" look on their face. :n00b:
The whole concept is to remind people it's a License To Carry Handgun, too many people think it's for concealed only. Hence to reason for the image of the license to show that. You'd be amazed on how many people get it, laminate it and never really look at or understand what their permit allows them to do on what way they may carry.

Informational only, not want this to become a oc/cc thread.

Most people will say "yeah, whatever" and keep calling a permit.

Although each has a particular meaning, in the common vernacular they are interchangeable. Getting stressed about it will do nothing except raise your blood pressure and get you a headshake from the uninformed.
And no, I'm not giving beerman a quarter unless he brings me beer.

Bill I hate to be a party :poop:er on your thought process on this, but no it is not the same and the reason why the uninformed must be informed.

You see LTCH means License To Carry, that means you may carry any darn well way you see fit.

Whereas CCW means Concealed Carry Weapon, not any way you want.

There has been on more than many instances where there have been confusion on this and the above approach is one reason why.

Arizona has had legal open carry since 1903 (it's written into the state constitution).

In 2010, we gained Constitutional Carry, which allows you to carry open or concealed without a permit (basically a modification of the original open carry 'right')... and only applies to individuals (21 or older), who can legally own a weapon and who do not hold a valid carry permit/license (your state of residence is irrelevant).

I have a Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit. Arizona allows open carry, on this permit... so again, open carry was always legal, the permit allows you to carry concealed (if you desire) or when out of state.

Under Indiana law, I can open carry here (on a CWP), as Indiana accepts all other states permits "according to the terms thereof".

My point here is that it doesn't matter what your state calls it, what matters are the permissions it allows you, relevant to the state your standing in.
