latest update is post #21 first on page 3

I have only put 24 rounds down the pipe, and I used blazer, the
aluminum cased ammo. Nearly every casing jumped up and bounced of my
head, shoulders, or arms. Yes, some went left.

When it happened the first time I tightened my grip, and it kept happening!

This is a new gun, could this be something that will straiten out on its own?

Is it possible I got a dud? I've read about a police agency that ordered
m&p9's that had the same problem. It turned out they had a .40 slide, Oops.

I haven't had a chance to try it out with brass, and the extractor is pretty
tight, but it doesn't seem like an extractor would make cases jump strait up
and back. But what do I know I'm appealing to the internet for answers.
No offense to INGO, just the "geniuses" usually found on the interwebs.

    Wish I could help.

I had much the same issue with a LNIB G17 that I bought.

Everyone kept telling me that I wasn't holding it tight enough.

It is the new gangsta model, if you hold it sideways, like you are suppose to, the casings will not be hitting you. But seriously, sounds like the gun needs to be looked at by a professional. Good luck.

None of my M&P's send the casings toward me, so I would recommend that you call S&W in the morning. I'm sure that they will have you send the gun to them on their dime, and you should have it back within a week. A week is a small price to pay to have years of happiness with your pistol.

Call 1-800-331-0852 and tell them I sent you. :D

Can you let someone else try it out? And see if they get the same result? I'd do that, before you send it back to S&W.

Whenever my wife shoots my M&P9c and my Glock 19, she has almost the same problem. The brass "attacks" her face. I don't have that problem.

It COULD be the shooter, and not the gun. Id let a friend try it out before I'd send it back.

Run a couple mags of other brands of ammo to see however, it is probably just that the extractor/ejector needs a minor adjustment. S&W will take care of it!

It is not your grip per se that needs to be tighter....it is probably your wrist. Limp wristing will cause ejection back towards your face. I had the same issue with my new carry gun when I got it, having switched from 9 MM to 45. After my first range session, I had a couple dents in my forehard and a slight burn from a piece of brass that dropped behind my glasses.

Limp wristing can be limp elbows or not having your weight far enough forward too.

One test you can try is to see how the gun ejects when you manually cycle rounds through it by racking the slide. If it correctly ejects a much heavier loaded round, it ought to do the same with empty brass.

    Well, theoretically at least....

I had this problem too with my M&P9, one of the casing actually went down my **** and burnt my chest a little lol, but i only had this issue honestly with aluminum casing ammo and not the brass?

    update

I used some brass cased ammo, and let someone else shoot the pistol.

It's the aluminum cases. Both the other shooter, and I had similar results
with the brass cases landing about 1 or 2 feet to the right of our feet,
and the aluminum cases where just scattering in every direction.
    Some even flew forward!:dunno:

My plan is to put at least another box of brass down the pipe and see if
the ejection pattern changes, or remains satisfactory.

So the round count so far, 36 aluminum, shotgun scattered, 24 brass
normal ejection pattern, 0 failures, accurate bullet placement.

If I never shot the aluminum cases I would have never thought any thing
about the case ejection at all. Maybe the m&p just prefers the brass.:dunno:

Good to hear. AS I was just reading through this thread I was wondering if this would happen with brass as well. The extractor may be engaging the aluminum cases a bit differently or they may be lighter and the extractor may be holding on to them longer, etc.

Sounds like you have it worked out, but as you stated, I'd shoot it with brass a bit more to see how it will behave.

Glad too hear you found the problem out .... I have the same problem with my M&P conversion barrel (.40 to 9mm). I actually had a couple cases (brass) come down in my shooting glasses.

    huh what?

Let me google that for you

If you carry an M&P, you better well know if it has issues or not.

At one time, I had considered getting one for shooting matches with, but not if I have to upgrade the whole darn gun with Apex parts to do it.

I had problems with my M&P 9c too. S&W replaced the extractor.

After about 3 hundred rounds, Ive only had 2 more issues, and it was in the ACT Low Light Class.

I've no idea if it's the extractor or something else yet.

    Hate to hear that LM.

I want to love the M&P, but have stuck with "the devil that I know" for now.

Helped my dad chose an M&P 40 for his carry gun, but he honestly hasn't shot it enough to know any issues with it.

I've been tempted to buy the Apex extractor. But I already installed the Apex defensive carry kit. I feel like I'm almost gutting all the S&W parts on this thing....

I plan on running a couple hundred rounds thru it on Friday before I do anything else.
