Some MAK-90s used the first two numbers of the serial number as the date, normally 93, and 94 for those two years. There were some with a 92, but I have not seen any marked 90 or 91. The fact that the first two digits aren't a year in the early 1990s unfortunately can't be traced, and not having a number doesn't mean it couldn't be 1993 or 1994 either, because not all were date marked.

Other than the last two years of allowed sale, there is unfortunately no way to tell.

The unconstitutional rule is known as 922(r) which states you cannot make a semi auto rifle or shotgun using more than 10 imported parts that does not meet the sporting purpose of some fabled rule that is not in the constitution.

The MAK-90 as delivered with the Bush-hole stock is 100% legal in that condition. It is only if you want to remover that ridiculous stock and install a standard pistol grip, or otherwise change it's configuration do you have to worry about having no more than 10 countable parts.

Also, it does not state you can't buy one in an unsporting condition, only that you can't make it that way, so if you bought it with a standard pistol grip and stock, you don't have to change anything.

Also see Title 27 Part 478.39 which seems to be ATFs newest version of the same unconstitutionality.

Ironwood Designs makes a stock for the slant cut receiver for both milled MAK-90s of which all receivers are angle cut, or the stamped of which some are angle cut. You can specify when you order.

I have purchased a lot of stuff from Ironwood and the guy who runs it is a credit to the hobby, making great stuff. Here is their link:
