    His life was potentially saved by his actions. As much as I agree that his gun should be returned promptly, sweating over a $500 Glock is silly. I would gladly use a $5,000 HK if my life, or yours was on the line. Guns are just tools.

    Yes, tools are property, and tools cost money.
    Sure, if push came to shove, I'd too would use $5,000 HK to defend against an attacker.
    But it's not "silly" to speak out against theft.
    Nobody should have to submit to theft in order to exercise a constitutional right.

    Take the case from the OP.
    The robber was shot dead by the intended victim.
    No charges will be filed.
    There won't be a trial, so there's no case of needing the gun for evidence.

    Need a sample bullet for the record?
    Fine, shoot the pistol, get the bullet and give the man back his gun.
    That shouldn't take weeks, months or years or never.
    Unless the City of Indianapolis government likes the additional "benefit" of de-facto gun confiscation scam.
