    (CNN) -- The man behind a controversial book considered a "how-to" guide for pedophiles was arrested in Colorado, officials in Florida said Monday.
    "You cannot engage or depict children in a harmful relationship," said Polk County, Florida, Sheriff Grady Judd as he described the Florida obscenity statute that officials used to charge Phillip Greaves with distribution of obscene material depicting minors engaged in harmful conduct.
    The self-published author was arrested in Pueblo, Colorado, on a Florida felony warrant after undercover detectives in Polk County purchased and received a copy of the book through the mail. He will have to be extradited to Florida to face charges.
    Judd said the book was Greaves' last copy, which he autographed before sending out.
    Greaves and his book, "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-Lover's Code of Conduct," gained national attention earlier this year after Amazon.com defended selling the book on its website despite angry comments and threats of boycotts from thousands of users.

    Amazon pulled the book from its site in early November.
    "He actually provided a how-to guide to commit sexual battery against children," according to Judd, who said he was shocked and mortified by specific examples and illustrations using 9- and 13-year-old boys.
    Judd said he was frustrated that Greaves' book was protected under freedom of speech laws, even though it was created "specifically to teach people how to sexually molest and rape children."
    "There may be nothing that the other 49 states can do, but there is something that the state of Florida can do ... to make sure we prosecute Philip Greaves for his manifesto," Judd said.
    Officials said the book talked about safe sex and avoiding injury to children, grooming and preparing children for sex, and teaching children how to lie to their parents.
    Judd said Greaves' book outlined a "code of ethics" that showed pedophiles how to look for the most vulnerable children.
    "The message is very clear: If you write a book, if you sell that book, if you transmit that book to anyone in our jurisdiction, then we will investigate you and arrest, because our goal is protect the children," the sheriff said.

    Sad as it seems, pedophilia is not a crime. Acting on it is. I am in no way defending the author, but he has every right to voice his opinion. I think pedos should be swiftly executed enacting their heinous fantasies. Many good men are imprisoned for protecting their children. This is BS.

    If the report from CNN is accurate and the book had illustrations of children, then, as I am aware of the interpretation, it violates federal law against child pornography. If the author had refrained from using illustrations and kept to writing only, then the book would probably fall under First Amendment privileges.

    This is a bit similar to a case awhile back about a collector of graphic novels from Japan, who was prosecuted for violation of U.S. child pornography laws since some of his books had hand-drawn pictures of what appeared to be under-age children.

    Thus, because of the visual depictions within his "how-to" book, he can be prosecuted.

    I don't see how illustrations wouldn't be protected under the first amendment either. Even if they are heinous. That seems like an infringement unless he was using live models to make the illustrations, in which case it is exploitation and child pornography.

    I absolutely hate pedophiles, even if they are "reformed". Things like the Family Guy old man (if one is acclimated to that show) to this guy, I want nothing more than to plant my Beretta into the back of their heads and fire until slide lock. I think it disgusting that Fox keeps showing that television show with that old man charector, but it's their right I guess. :xmad: BUT, the news and some folks I have talked to claim his book is protected speech (but apparently not in his county, count on a long drawn out court process on this, tax payer funded of course)... I want to see more on this if anyone can prove it.

    One thing I am happy about though is that this goon's book was pulled from it's largest and potentially most successful selling outlet: Amazon. I am very glad that people voted with their wallets and forced Amazon to pull the book. :yesway:

    Rights vs. "morality": The line is there, but thin. Sometimes I have to temper my passion against something (and something usually based on feelings rather than facts), but this guy is scum, pure and simple. I will take a HUGE karma hit, but I wish nothing but ill for the author. Things like legalization of marijuana, abortion, etc... are all issues, yes. But, things like pedophilia are literally wrong in my mind. Someone will likely come along and give some analysis showing that he has a "right" to be a pedophile. :rolleyes: It's not like being gay, where there is a consenting partner and is okay in my book. Children either do not have the wherewithall to resist or do not know better, it's molestation and evil at it's core. It's taking advantage of someone who cannot defend themselves, akin to rape.

    keep in mind that Grady Judd is possibly the biggest kook in law enforcement---IN THE WORLD!!!!

    he arrested a guy last year for writing a rap song about the cops---his cops spent a couple hours on a drug bust last year in the suspects house playing XBOX and commenting on their scores,,,his cops killed one of their own with friendly fire during a pursuit,,,so they just took out the guy the guy in a freefire exercise,,,and Judd said ---we ran out of bullets...

    Grady Judd is just a nutjob...i cant believe Colorado would execute one of his warrants...

    To address the OP's concerns, yes. His 1st Amendment rights are being violated and, from what I've read on this from a few different sources, it looks like he was entrapped. If he gets a good lawyer he should be able to make his case. I'm not even sure if Colorado will extradite him, unless the so-called "legal system" decides that they should aid their brother in blue. This whole thing stinks. Yeah, I don't care for the guy, but I don't see that he committed a crime by writing something we all abhor. That's not a crime, (if it was Algore would be doing life).

    Ergo the beauty of our system. He will be tried by an impartial jury who weighs all evidence and returns a verdict.

    Now based on the other thread floating around the question is do you believe the outcome will be:

    a) Nullification in favor of the defendant by a jury full of pedophiles;
    b) Nullification in favor of the State by a jury full of victims of sex crimes;
    c) A fair trial followed by a fair verdict by an impartial jury;
    d) He'll be killed in jail before he reaches trial.

    I think Florida had a case several years ago involving an adult woman who created adult videos wherein she would dress and behave as a child. If memory serves me right the woman won her case and was allowed to keep making her videos because she was in fact an adult.

    Unfourtanaltly as disgusting as I find this I do believe his 1st ammendment rights are being violated. Merely writing a book no mater how offensive people should not be illegal. Now if he acted on his sick impulses and actually touched a child he should be given the stiffest penalty possible.

    On a personal note I do hope his next book is " A Prisoners Guide to Sodamy"

    i would venture to guess that if your writing a book about how to rape kids and not get caught, you have probably practiced it a few times.
