He has court security, the jail and civil/tax responsibilities. Maybe registered sex offender stuff as well but I'm not sure on the statute with that one. If the taxpayers are footing the bill for uniformed officers in marked cars to be out enforcing the law, those officers should also be responding to 911 calls and taking crash reports. Like I said, I'm not knocking anyone at the department, roaming free with zero accountability to the taxpayers is an awesome job if you can get it (I was able to do something similar for several years when I worked MCSD). I have no doubt they have plenty who work hard to earn what they make but this is not how the merger was supposed to work. IMPD has officers working beats in unmarked pickup trucks because there are no patrol cars and MCSD is buying patrol cars and putting them on the streets with officers who aren't responsible for handling calls.

You mean MCSD is putting cars in driveways and don't forget the gas cards :):
I agree with you that there are very good employees with the MCSD but to no fault of their own, the MCSD is a pox on the tax payers of Marion County and is blowing money left and right that should be going to IMPD. People should be marching with signs but it's not like the DemocRAT controlled council and mayor would do anything to help the police anyways. They gotta keep all of their gangsta and corrupt but tax funded church coalition people happy since that's who keeps them in office

Wait what? It appears you said that MCSD isn't taking calls, implying they just kinda cruise interdiction style just looking for something to pop off real-time. Is that what you're saying?

So they are only legit officers if they take 911 calls and do crash reports? LOL, when was the last time your guys on motorcycles did anything but direct traffic or escorts? MCSO was capped by the council for the amount of cars they could have when the merger happened. That number is still held to.

You can take it personally if you’d like in spite of my repeated mention that I have nothing against anyone at MCSD. The fact of the matter is that resources which should be benefitting the people paying for them aren’t. It’s the politics of the situation that are ****ed, not the employees.

I’m saying 100% of the geographical area of Marion Co which isn’t handled by the smaller town agencies belongs to IMPD. I’m not saying MCSD doesn’t jump runs and help out, I’m saying the entire department could take a week off and IMPD would not have to do anything different to cover the county.

^^^ that feels like fishing, but... it is also basically true from my understanding.

So take away the 100 cars that are on the street and IMPD is going to pick up all the SOR's checks, the traffic details, the warrants that are called in and the GPS warrants? lol, ask anyone in Indianapolis now how long it takes to get someone to respond to a wrecked vehicle where the driver gets out and runs. (It was over an hour and the car was stolen)

Except that you would have more district runs to pick up wanted people, Sex offenders to check on, accident reports to do(because we do them, not all of use drive past them)

I’d be happy to ask them. I’d also be happy to point out to them that their politicians should direct their resources more effectively. Put those 100 cars under IMPD and take those officers from MCSD and put them under IMPD and you have the same number on the streets but with more accountability. Unless you’re suggesting MCSD is superior to IMPD in its ability to enforce the law? That would be a very different conversation.

Then you would have to start paying them though because 60 of them are reserves that do it for no pay. what would that be in IMPD pay 3.6 million?

Ah gotcha. So it's failure of logistics coming from the top. Why hasn't this been addressed? I'd used to get pissed when we had to cover parts of other cities, and that was only for a few hours, and they didn't have cars available. I'd have been seriously pissed if I had to do the same knowing there were other cars able to take off some of the load. We both know that there aren't nearly enough people who will willingly "jump" a call, unless it's something good. 10-50..."nope," 10-55..."nope," 10-10.... "Oh, I'm on that!"

Contrary to what some apparently want to believe I’m saying, you are correct. It is a logistical issue and it’ll probably never be addressed because politics.

Dead set on making it personal aren’t ya? I’ll be done, enjoy whatever it is you feel you contribute.

Its not personal at all. The issue I have is you dont even know what the Sheriffs Offices responsibilities are but you have no issue with taking away from it.

Fill some beats 24/7/365. I'm all for it. Give MCSD back all of their jurisdiction they had in 2006 and do it tomorrow. I'm good with it. Somehow I'm betting that offer wouldn't be accepted.
