marlin or Remington

I am looking at buying a marlin 336w. I can't tell if it's stamped JM it is stamped but I can't tell what it is . The serial number is 980267xx. If that helps if it's a Remington made I will pass on is any help would be great.

I believe you have a 2002 Marlin. The Marlins by Remington have a serial number that start with MR.
