I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about a marlin model 42. I had it since I was 13 it was a gift and my first rifle or gun for that fact. So any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
The Marlin model 42A was mfg 1922-34. It is similar to the model 24 with a lesser quality finish. The 24 is an improved model 21, take down, auto recoil lock on slide, solid matte rib, exposed hammer, 12 ga., various chokes and a 5 shot mag tube. In 1998 Marlin issued a service bulletin recommended that slide action, exposed hammer models like the 42 should not be fired, as many of these guns are 70-100 years old and system failures can and do happen. (Have it checked out). This is from the 13th edition of the Blue Book of gun values. Value shows 100% at $250 and 60% at $100. Like I said, this is from the book and hope it helps.
