Hey Guys! I have a question regarding how everyone stores large amounts of ammo. Currently, I'm storing my x39 in their original boxes, in .50 caliber ammo cans. Right now, I can hold 800 rounds in a single ammo can. I'm wondering though, is there a better way to store it? How many of you just throw them loosely in the can, and how many round will it hold?

What are some other methods you guys use, and how many rounds will it hold? Specifically those of you using x39/

The Yugo stuff in the green crates I just stack. My other bulk storage stuff comes in boxes that are vacuum sealed in thick plastic, which I leave it in. My other x39 is either in magazines or, I'm sad to say, just kept in empty plastic snap top coffee cans.

    50 caliber ammo cans hold about 3,000 of 5.56X45. A 20mm can holds about 1,000 of 7.62X51. A 30 caliber can holds about 500 of 45 ACP or 1,000 of 9mm.

    All loose in the can.

For the most part, I just throw it loose in an ammo can. Some stuff, if I have several different flavors (OLD 38 spl wadcutters, semi old semi wadcutters) I have in 50 round containers or in the styrofoam crates, then just stack them in an ammo cans

    22s I just leave in the box/brick/case

30 cal cans hold 1200/9mm 124 gr, 1000/40 S&W 165 gr, 750/5.56 62 gr. all loose. I prefer them over the 50 cal cans as they're a lot easier for this old guy to carry.

Make sure you research the ammo you are going to store. For example the German DAG 7.62 x51 surplus comes in sealed battle packs but the paper in the individual boxes in the battle packs is corrosive. So some ammo you are going to want to store loose or at lease repackage it.

I'm going to guess that with the normal packaging of most x39 cartridges you will be better leaving them in the box unless you need quick access to them. The only time eliminating the box frees up a lot of space is if there is "extra packaging material" in the box. If there isn't any like with X39 ammo then keeping them organized in the rows like they currently are inside the boxes will saves just as much room as the packaging consumes. IE, dumping them out may save a bit of space by eliminating the packaging but the ammo will be somewhat in disarray which will waste space. It will be a wash...
