Downtown is surprisingly safe. I have worked in the downtown for over 20 years and have seen it do nothing but improve. Trouble begins when you start to head southeast. Get out of the historic district and head towards Hwy 41 and things can get dicey.

Interesting, there is not now, nor has there ever been, a Denny's downtown.

A 2nd on the Denny's comment. I can't think of where he could have been to think he was a Denny's and Downtown.

Same here .. north, east, west .. there are 3 of them, as far as I know.

I don't think he said when that was .. there used to be a breakfast joint 'Dustys' on S. Kentucky, in a pretty seedy area. It's closed now, but I don't know how long they've been closed ..

I am kind of shocked to see some of these comments in regards to Evansville. I was born in Evansville and have spent a good deal of my life here. I have spent several years elsewhere in quite larger cities as well and would never really think of Evansville as a dangerous place. Yes, like any city, there are some areas to avoid but based off some of these comments you may need to get out more.

I have no problems walking around DT E'ville at anytime. In fact, I will be hittin Main street after the Guns-N Hoses fight on Saturday night. Then we will end up at Casino Aztar to finish the night/morning.

I was there that night. Officers did a great job in arriving and helping. The guy did all the work for us.

The gentleman in question is my father. This is EXACTLY why we own guns.

First of all, hats off to your dad. Would love to shake his hand. As said earlier, he is a hero and we need more people willing to stand up to the dark side.

After a lot of anti-gun stories here regarding the Evansville PD, would really be interesting to get your take on how your dad has been treated by them after this shooting.
