This is to all the veteran war fighters out there. If the shoe fits wear it. If it doesn't just shrug it off and recognize that it does not apply to you.

Memorial day is right around the corner. It is a troublesome and sometimes confusing day for a lot of people. A day when people walk up to us and to say "thanks for your service" not realizing that the person they're thanking feels guilty that they are alive and all of their friends are dead. It is a day we watch everyone have barbecues, drink beer, and enjoy the day off. Remember that this was the point of it all. I want my family and friends to live in ignorant bliss. Never having to know about the blood and screams.
So on May 28th when somebody thanks you for service, don't be a ***** and correct them about the difference between veterans day and memorial day. Look around at the smiles on everyone's faces. Smell the smoke from the barbecue, kick back put your feet up and enjoy a beer. Live in the moment for a day. Be in the present appreciating our brothers that gave it all, and that they did it for a reason. Know that the people around you are doing exactly what they're supposed to be doing. They are doing what we fought and some died for. They are enjoying a FREE life.

I will thank those who served with a clear heart and no expectations past the occasional hand shake.

Thanks to all for their sacrifices.

Never having had the opportunity to serve, I hadn't given much thought to how the Veterans, I have thanked for their service may feel about it..especially on a day set aside for rembrance.
I have lost a few friends who fought for our nation. So, I can understand (to some degree) the final ultimate sacrifice. Either way fallen or alive, I am forever thankful to those who have served.

    Well said.
I'd also add, some vets get angry when told "Have a happy Memorial Day".

Well, I'm just one person, but I figure, what is wrong with wishing someone a nice day?
I'm sure all the vets that died, didn't die hoping that people would mope around all day.

Remember the reason for the holiday.
Bow your heads and give thanks for those that paid the ultimate price.
Then, have a good holiday with friends and family.

On this Memorial day, let us remember what was rendered. It is time for the weary to rest easy, as the relief has the watch. A day off, it is to some. As it is a day of remembrance by those left behind, in the knowledge that the fallen shall rest so. To my brothers and sisters, "You are not forgotten." In memoriam, thank a vet and let us not forget the families of the same.

A lot of us know someone that made Monday's "holiday" necessary.

Gone too soon, but not forgotten.
