I have hunted SD that past two springs. It is a great time. We didn't see the pure number of turkeys this year as in 2011, but we all took a bird and could have filled all our tags if we had really wanted (passed up tons of jakes this year). In 2011, we killed 7 long beards in one day, and the 8th the next day. It was crazy.

I hunted the Rosebud Reservation, southeast of the Black Hills. You have to use a "guide" on the Reservation, but most of the guides will pretty much turn you loose to hunt on property as you want to. The Rosebud website has an area that lists guides.

I've been to the Black Hills, but not hunted it. Tons of birds there. A lot of hunters too. From what I've been told, the key is going deeper than most guys are willing to go.

Nice! Never tried bow hunting a bird. I got a hard enough time bagging one with the 12G! Always wanted to try the "Slam" but never have the time or money it seems.
