I am thinking of buying a .40 for no other reason than I do not have one. I have generally gone with stainless steel pistols whenever possible. It looks like almost any .40 out there is composite frame. Are there any stainless .40's?

    Most 1911 40 S&W are old fashion STEEL:rockwoot:

?? you must only be looking at glocks...

    Take a look at a sig (P229, P239, etc..)

you can search gunbroker and just put in ".40 SS" and you should get some results that give you n idea what's out there.

My favorite .40 SS is the Beretta 96FS Inox. Not sure that Beretta makes them anymore, but they are a heck of a full-size handgun.

I have the 4006 from S&W referenced above, and although it's been relegated to nightstand service it is a solid, well-constructed weapon that is fully stainless. I think they are worth more than the used market is valuing them at and would recommend them as a very good value-priced used weapon. They are awfully heavy though!

Thanks for the replys. I clearly didn't look hard enough. I kept finding Glocks, S&W and Springfield composite frames. Now I know where to look.

I think that CZ has a stainless model 75B in .40 caliber. The CZ 75B is one of the best feeling steel frame guns that I have held.

The smallest steel frame .40s are probably the Kahr pistols, MK40 and K40 single stack models.

I've owned the Smith & Wesson 4006, and had really good luck with it. A pretty soft shooter, and a good grip feel! Mags are pretty cheap, too.

CZ, Witness, Sig, Beretta, S&W and most makers of 1911s make metal framed guns in .40. Some are alloy, some are steel and some are stainless. Go to a big shop and look around and see what you like. :yesway:

Beretta still makes em. I found a two tone version (stainless upper/barrel with black lower) brand new at Gander Mountain Greenwood yesterday (3/5/11)

Grossly overpriced at Gander, but hey...they're out there.
