Here's a better idea. Why don't they just write a big check to the federal government if they're so hot-to-trot to part with their money. I'm not normally one to rail against someone simply because of his wealth, but this just chaps my hide. I despise the arrogance that another man thinks he has the authority to speak for me and my money.

    40 of this nation's millionaires???

    According to wikipedia...

The number of U.S. households with a net worth of $1 million or more, not including first homes, fell by 2.5 million to 6.7 million in 2008, according to the Spectrum Group report, as reported by Reuters.

So against the 40 millionaires who say "tax us", there's 6,699,960 or so that say "pound sand"!

I agree 100%. There's nothing keeping those jackals from practicing what they preach and donate money to the gov.

If you want to donate money to the .GOV then you're more than welcome to do it. If you want to donate money to a church then you're more than welcome to do it. If you want to donate your money to the guy by the side of the road holding a cardboard sign then you're more than welcome to do it. STOP TRYING TO FORCE ME TO GIVE MY MONEY TO PEOPLE THAT I DON'T THINK NEED HELP!!

How did these people get the millions they have? They can't be very smart if they honestly think that giving the government more money is a good idea or a solution to todays problems. How about tithing more to your church or investing more in your company so you can put people back to work?

It also gives the false impression that there's some tax bracket that has something to do with a million dollars. This feeds into the idea that the top tax bracket starts with people who make a million dollars and ignores the people who make more than 250K, but less than 1 mil, which comprises the vast majority of the people in that highest bracket.

Even 250K sounds like a lot, but it can also include forms of income that actually shouuldn't really count. For instance, I have a house that I can't sell because of the way the housing market has taken a dump. I rent it out, but I take a net loss of 600 dollars every month. You'd think I wouldn't pay taxes on that rental income, since it accounts for a 7K loss every year. The government, in its eternal wisdom, still makes me count my gross rent towards my income, then limits the loss I may take on that income. I get taxed for money I don't get to use.

The "millionaires" may please shut up, pay extra if they wish, and leave the rest of us out of their lovely generosity with other people's money.
