Yesterday I hauled a 150+# road kill deer back onto my property. I thought about putting up a trailcam to watch the critters eating it, and hopefully get a picture of a local eagle. However, like an idiot, I did not put up the trail cam. Today, the deer is TOTALLY gone, except for just a little hair. Now I know it did not get up on its own, because it had two broken legs and a bullet hole in its head. My question, is what could have moved it without leaving a trace? I don't think coyotes or dogs could have moved it without leaving a trail of some kind. I'm wondering if it could have been one of the local wildcats.

We don't have wild cats in our area, but coyotes have removed them from our property in less than a day with nothing left behind.

A trail cam answers a lot of questions. It would not surprise me if it was a rouge cougar. Rare, but possible. Usually the coyotes eat the guts the first day, then pick at it over the following days. If it were coyotes, they probably didn't drag it far. If it's a cougar, they will usually feed and bury it for later.

It's not like the deer was a well kept secret........it had a bullet in it's head. Driver came back after work and took it, cold weather preserved it well enough.

    or yeah it was Mothman.

I moved it half a mile from the road into one of my fields - nobody but a psychic would have had any idea where it was, besides, the driver didn't put the bullet in its head

Over night say in a 12hr period a pack of yotes will eat every bit of it and haul off parts of it closer do den sights... My guess would be yotes, a big cat will eat what it wants then try to hide the rest close by with leaves and such... Look around you will find the rest or whats left of it...

Still 'yotes, but they ate it on the spot.
A whole pack of hungry yodel dogs will devour an entire carcass overnight quite easily.
