This. Why on Earth would you not immediately report it if you just escaped such an attack? In our instant communication world, I'd not be surprised if one of the the thugs Tweeted "Getting stabbed by "victim" LOL"; and the other cross-posting and Liking on Facebook saying "I know, right! FML."

Im all for self-defense, and if these two kids attacked that guy, he should be justified in using whatever level of force he deems needed. However, It struck me as extremely odd, that a person who is attacked and is forced to defend himself by stabbing his two attackers doesn't immediately report the event to the authorities, but rather goes home, and has to be tracked down by police to give a statement

Not only is the U.S. economy in shambles, violent crime is at an all-time high and new federal statistics show that 2011 saw the biggest increase in criminal activity in nearly two decades with a large boost in the rate of “violent victimizations” for whites.
The rate of violent crime increased by a whopping 17% last year, according to the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), marking the biggest jump since 1993. Property crimes also went up 11% last year. That means that in 2011 there were nearly 6 million violent victimizations and more than 17 million property victimizations, according to the DOJ figures.
In an apparent effort to downplay the alarming statistics the feds explain in a press release that the swelling of violent crime is due to an increase in the number of aggravated and simple assaults. There was no “statistically significant change” in the number of more serious crimes such as rapes, sexual assaults and robberies, according to the explanation.
The Obama Administration also asserts that the 2011 increase appears so large because crime rates were at historically low levels in 2010. The bottom line is that violent crime is growing at a much faster rate than the economy. One liberal news website quoted renowned criminal justice professor saying that the stagnant economy may be driving more Americans to break the law. It’s part of “larger problems,” the expert says.
Here are more unsettling statistics buried deep in the DOJ’s new crime report; there has been a large increase in the rate of violent victimizations for whites, Hispanics and younger people. That means white non-Hispanics and Hispanics experienced an increase in violent victimization rates, while the rate for black non-Hispanics was stable, according to the DOJ stats.
Additionally, crime rate in the suburbs is growing much faster than in the cities or rural areas, the government figures show. In 2011 suburbanites suffered a 20% in violent victimizations, according to the DOJ. Keep in mind that the feds admit in their report that the figures are probably much higher since only about 50% of violent victimizations were reported to police.

Because he probably knows that the "justice" system isn't always just, when it comes to self-defense.

I grew up in a very crime ridden city, and it was always well known that if something went down where you had to defend yourself against a mob of bad guys, it could be really hard as the cops would value all of their words against yours. 10 of them saying you acting in malice against 1 or 2 of you saying it was self-defense (without other absolutely clear cut evidence of your innocence) = you're about to have a very bad time. This is also without taking into account other political BS that can and does come up, all their mommas and grannies and whoever coming out of the woodwork saying what a great kid they were, etc. etc. etc.

A guy I know who lives up in Indy was jumped when he was walking to get home (drunk, alone, in Broad Ripple) and ended up fighting with the guy for some time and beating the guy to a pulp. It was pretty damn cold out, and he just left the guy not-moving in the street. There was no weapon involved on either side (fortunately, although he himself does carry sometimes), but he figured the BG might have just said he was attacked by a drunk guy. Who knows. Anway, he left that POS there and never heard anything else about it, so I guess he's good to go.

How does this apply to the thread at hand? Unless on implies that these people were victims of black on white crime, which the article doesn't address. These people could just as easily be attacked by persons of their own race rather than not.
