The Brinks truck driver told state police that another driver waved at him and pointed to the back of his truck, and that's when he realized the door was not secure and had opened, and that he was fired.

I understand that returning lost money is the right thing to do, but I don't really see how picking up loose money on the side of the road is considered theft. I've picked up change off the sidewalk before, could I be charged with theft?

    You tell me:

"A person who knowingly or intentionally exerts unauthorized control over property of another person, with intent to deprive the other person of any part of its value or use, commits theft..."

    Ind. Code sec. 35-43-4-2.

It's obvious where it came from. If you take money out of a bank bag or take the whole bag then you know. Also money doesn't grow on trees.
On another note, A lot of people dont know that it's a felony to take money that isnt yours in a casino even if you just find it laying on the ground. And they know who everyone is. So if you ever find cash or one of the claim tickets, DO NOT cash it in or keep it.
Afew years ago I found afew thousand dollars. No one saw me findit, no cameras, No way to track it back to the owner. I turned it into security and got a written receipt. The owner claimed it. Very good situation I would later find out. They needed that money. It wasnt just someone with money to spare.

I guess I'll be sure to make sure my son leaves the pennies he finds in parking lots a lone, would hate for him to have a record already.

If they didn't have money to spare, what were they doing in a casino? That's like DoggyMama's daughter complaining about being broke, and then going out to Shelbyville to gamble. I am... skeptical.

Lol come on. Not talking about a couple dollar Bill's blowing down the sidewalk. There were people jumping the fences from neighborhoods to get onto the interstate to grab pockets full of cash. And cars and even school buses stopping too.
Total chaos. Just like a smash and grab during a riot. They all knew what they were doing was wrong

Sorry I should have been more clear. It wasnt a casino. I've been to casinos but I'm not a gambler. I like the sure bets for my money. Not a lotto player either.

Casinos have cameras everywhere. Facial recognition in some. I think they pioneered it for the state drivers license system. If you walk into a casino they probably know what you did last summer. Lol

Ah, then that explains my confusion (about the casino). I'm not a gambler either. I figure I might as well be chucking 20's out the window on the way to the casino. I'd probably come home in about the same financial position. :):

Ha yep. We've done that in the past with friends just as an entertainment trip. We blocked off a set amount and just figured that amount of money was gone for good. An entertainment expense if you will. I could count those times on one hand. I dont like to lose at anything.
Although now I'm thinking it might be fun to drop about $200 worth of $1 Bill's off an overpass and watch the ensuing **** show

Interesting...Doesn't that describe how we're taxed on everything we own, earn or purchase? :dunno:

At 4:30 people were still pulling over to look around in case somebody missed a bill or two. (7 hours after the fact) I passed at least 3 cars in a half mile stretch pulled over. I saw 3 people at the one closest to the ramp to Sam Jones Expressway standing looking over the guardrail into the ditch. So it was obvious what they were doing.

Yep, this is why police have to guard neighborhoods where tornados roll through. Its not to protect people from being hurt really it's because of scum bag looters, thieves that wish to profit off the misfortune of others. People who pick up cash in the middle of a cash tornado KNOWING it doesn't belong to them and yet they act like they are on a game show. Like they are owed something for nothing
