First let me say thank you. Situation is this. Youth Mossy 500 with rifle sights on rifled barrel. I want to put a scope on for my kids
. Od course it is the barrel is not tapped for a scope. Not the cantilever barrel. I do not want a scope mounted to reciever. That would make things awkward with the field barrel. What are my options?

Id say sell your barrel and buy a cantelever barrel. I had one and they are nice. Off comes the barrel and the still zeroed scope goes with it.

    Thats your easiest path.

EDIT: I also tried dovetails but it was a PITA re zeroing the scope every time.

I have tapped a few for rails. It is not difficult if you have the tooling.

500s are drilled and tapped from the factory, takes a Weaver 417 base

Why not get a good set of QD rings and leave the scope base on the receiver when the field barrel is on?

As mentioned above, could sell the rifled sight barrel and get a canteliever

Could also use a side mount for it, however you're keep having to replace the ejector retaining screw, which I'd rather not do
