So I had a stupid attack, and bought an 835 barrel for my 500,got it cheap so let's make it fit.

The problem is there is no way to hold the barrel in place

So a cap is needed. No big deal.

    The machining is straightforward

Take 1 1/4 diameter round, face clean, centre drill, drill thru with a 7/16 drill, counter bore .990 wide by .320 deap , part off at 3/4th long

Take to the milling machine, drill for the detent ball with a number 2 centre drill, turn on it's side drill for a 1/4 -20 set screw

Install on your barrel with a 7/16-20 cap screw hand tight, screw the set screw down.......done!

Now for a couple neat tricks , when tapping thru holes, use a 2 flute tap,you do not need to reverse and brake the shaving

Here is quick easy way to find centre on round stock, when close is good, hold you scale between the cutter and part, move table until late part is optically level....good enough

Now for some cold blue and a turkey choke

That's ingenuity at it's finest. I really like the machining tips too. I have been putting off buying a set of 2 flute taps for a while. They are great for that (didn't know it till now though) and for working with aluminum too. Great work! Thanks for sharing it with the forum.

There is detent ball on the barrel, that the factory barrel takedown screw would have engaged to prevent this screw from coming loose as the gun is fited, other wise as you shoot it,your barrel could come loose

So I figured on my replacement I should do the same
