Anyone with experience, please assist me. I'm researching for the most accurage 20ga slug to be fired out of a H&R single barrel shotgun. Does anyone have experience with the D Dupleks slugs? I know NOTHING on this topic, so any assistance is greatly appreciated.
I have faith in all things Hornady. Hornady bullets and ammo have been consistantly more accurate than anything else I have used. I have to believe that the Hornady SST 20 guage slugs would do no less than excellent. All that said, I have not used slugs for many years. I deer hunt with 44 mag rifle, muzzleloader, and bow.
Rifled barrel or no? If it's rifled, the answers you get might not help. It varies greatly from gun to gun even from the same manufacturer. For example, I can shoot out to 225 yards with my Remington 870 using Hornady SST, but I know others who can't keep a group at 50.
Can't speak for smoothbores, I only put slogs in those for HD use.
I have a H&R 20ga. that is fully rifled and I shoot 2 3/4" Lightfields (Hybred EXP) with great accuracy. At 50 yards, 3 shots will touch each other. At 100 yards I get 1" groupings. The key is to sight your gun in at 1/4" to 1/2" low at 25 yards....when doing this you will be 1 1/2" to 2" high at 50 yards, but back to zero at 100 yards. With this set up there is no need for distance sight compensation out to 100 yards. Note: I get about a 4" drop at 150 yards, but 99% of my shots while deer hunting are 60 yards on in.
Yes. You are absolutely right. What you suggested is with out a doubt the best, most accurate, best value for the money, and smartest thing to use for exactly what you planned.
