I just finished watching it and wow!
Forget the action scenes (yes it does have some) but the emotional and physiological toll that those men suffered is beyond any words I can type.

Thank you to all who have served our country. :patriot:

Up next on the list of rentals is "Letters from Iwo Jima".

You will also be amazed by letters from Iwo Jima! I have them both on DVD, (I have almost everything Clint Eastwood has ever had anything to do with). Both films were done exceptionally well. I found myself getting knots in my stomach watching both.:yesway:

And Shooter1, you should be proud. That had to be an amazing trip!

Shooter, that is some awesome photos. Thank you for your service sir!!!!! That had to be really moving for you.

I have just reread the book and I have the movie. If you don't have the book, get it. If you liked the movie, you will love the book. It goes into great detail about the first flag raising, the six men and the photo of the second flag being put up. Great book.

The book goes into that as well. The War Bond tours were and had been ongoing through out WWII. And the U.S. did use the surviving flagraisers for the 7th bond tour of the war. And if I recall the book correctly, they raised the most money out of all the War Bond tours

Eastwood directed it...Would you expect anything less?

You'll really enjoy Letters from Iwo Jima as well.

If you like Flags Of Our Fathers, I would recommend Fly Boys, also by James Bradley. It, plus Letters From Iwo, will give you some real insight about the Japanese military culture at that time. I found the parallels between their brutality and fanaticism and that of our enemies today to be eye opening. It will give the sacrifices of those who served a whole new meaning.

First off may I say that is one heck of a restoration job.

The only questions I have is were those dog tags in the first pic that you removed from the monument? I'm kind of curious what became of those if so, it looks like a lot of folks left a part of themselves there.

Did Japan or the US ever recover the bodies of the Japanese soldiers that died inside the mountain?
Or is the "inside" of the mountain just a big cemetery for the dead soldiers?
