I read that his publicist said he died from bacterial meningitis. That can advance very quickly, and is sometimes able to kill a person within hours.

I saw him at Deer Creek a few years ago. It was a three band show with Ann Wilson of Heart, Paul Rogers of Bad Company and Jeff Beck. I took NY wife because she really wanted to see Ann Wilson and I really wanted to see Paul Rogers. Ann sounded great, Paul was awful, but Jeff was mind blowing. We were both blown away by how he made that Strat do his bidding.

I'm happy that I was able to see him play in person once in my life.
