Thinking abbout a Muzzle break on the AR. I have been reading but would like some real world imput. Anyone have one installed if so what are you using and how does it preform
I have JP brakes on both a 223 and 308, a JP Benny Cooley style on the 223 and the tank style brake on the 308. The tank style brakes are funky looking but the most efficient type I know of. The BC style is almost as good at recoil reduction as the tank style but is much more streamlined. The BC is legal for three gun but I believe the tank style isn't. Both rifles are very accurate but I have never shot them without brakes, a bad brake design or installation can really hurt accuracy. JP Rifles has a video on there website recoil. Hope this helps.
Have used a JP Brake and Battlecomp. In 99% of situations, I feel a brake isn't really an advantage over the A2 birdcage in 223. If anything, it adds a bit of unpleasantness. At least, my battlecomp does. It adds a noticeable concussive force when shooting.
What do you hope to get out of changing your muzzle device?
I say dump the brake idea and go for flash suppression. Then practice on your muzzle control and show up people that have brakes! Save $$$ and add function!!!!!!
I have used a few, but by far the best for me is the Battlecomp 2.0. When i'm at full 9x magnification on my scope the muzzle lift is considerably less than with the standard A2.
Although I agree with Takashi above about the noise factor.
For a 5.56 AR I would definitely get a flash hider over a brake. That said, with the chances that you'll ever need the benefits of either, get whatever you want.
I haven't tried the primary weapons system break the was pictured earlier but it is one I wouldn't mind trying out, for the one that I have to keep on target I chose a surefire break.
