I am curious about how much the class cost? And please keep the info coming! Sounds like a lot of work but very rewarding!

I really dont know. GI Bill is paying for mine. I think I have a reciept somewhere but I dont know where.

Its definitely gonna be alot of work, but itll be way worth it to have a gun that I built myself. You should definitely look into the school if its something youre interested in.

That's one online company that I like a lot . Very nice work? And it is a lot more work than people think, even after you try to explain it!

I had no idea the GI bill will would cover a gunsmith class, damn good idea

Yep, I'm getting full time credits for the class, so I'm receiving all of my housing allowance. Its a win, win. Plus I can take my general studies classes next year and get an Associates in Applied Science.

Yep, looks good and there really is a lot more work and skill involved than most people think. Get at it and it'll get done.

Well, I have to apologize, I forgot my phone at home today and couldnt take pictures. It sucks because I got quite a bit accomplished. I cut the barrel lugs for the slide release and installed the barrel link. I got a perfect fit (This was a lot of work and takes a lot fitting to find the correct sized link). The barrel locks in and out perfectly now. I reamed the chamber to SAAMI specs (well, sort of, SAAMI minimum depth is .898 and I went to .903 as recommended by the Brownells tech) I fit the trigger but unfortunatley I filed just a little too much off the top and it has a very slight up and down wiggle, but its not that bad and wont affect anything.

Ill be sure to bring my phone tomorrow and Ill get some pics of my work from yesterday too. Thanks to all you guys who are following this. If its something anyone is thinking of trying, just dont jump right in and expect it go smooth. Good luck though!

Well... I found today that my STI receiver requires a ramped barrel, and the barrel I have worked on needs a ramped receiver. Anyone need an extra 1911 barrel? :D

I have done this very thing. Taught me some valuable lessons. Look, ask and pay attention to the details.

    It was my first build.
