I started my Nephew off the same way training and safe handling of the firearm against his mothers wishes. Well to make a long story short we done a lot of pinking. He took it in 4H and really excelled he is now a great shot and his mother thanks me
My twins grew up around my firearms, and early on I worked with them on safety issues. It's tradition in my family that you receive a firearm for your 10th birthday, so I got a pair of Heritage Rough Riders .22 revolvers for them. I don't have pictures from their first range experience, but the look on their face when they gently squeezed that trigger and sent the round down range hitting paper was great.
Here are a couple later pics of them trying out my 22/45 for the first time on our backyard range.
My 10th birthday gun was a Winchester Model 37 .410
