I was in the area setting off fireworks and shooting while wearing only sandals

IU spokesman Mark Land said the school didn't issue an alert because police caught him so quickly. He said IU's text and email alert system is designed to warn students of imminent or ongoing threats, and the situation was off campus and ended quickly

Case in point for allowing carry on campus; how long do you think it would've taken him to hurt someone who WAS on campus? What about people who were students but traveled off of campus for lunch, or to their apartments? Something like this going on right near a campus, and they DIDN'T issue a warning? How dumb is that?

The whole incident lasted a little more than 5 minutes, needless to say it was a little hectic what with the cracked out naked guy popping off rounds and multiple agencies responding. Theres a chain of command in place for the IU notify system, like anything else, and it takes a bit of time to get a message out. It was over long before they could have gotten anything out.

How many people could a determined gunman kill in 5 minutes if this event had happened on campus?

Same basis as the "cops are only minutes away" argument. Congratulations for having an "early warning system," but its not fast enough to do much good.

You're the one who asked why a message wasn't sent out. I never said it was a good system.
