I would guess this was due to a mixture of impressing a woman, drinking, and complacency from being around firearms too much. It can happen to anyone that doesn't continue to be careful around guns and follow the rules of firearms.

Eternal vigilance is the price of safety, security and peace. Even the best can forget or make a mistake. Hate to lose a SEAL to such lack of vigilance.

Lots of factors contributing to the sad end of this story but any one of the 4 safety rules would have prevented. I have a 5th I use myself. Either alcohol OR guns in my hands - NEVER both!

The combination of testosterone, youth, and huge quantities of alcohol is a volatile mix. Add in guns and pretty girls... RIP to the SEAL and best wishes to his family and friends in dealing with their loss.

The reason gun safety must be taught is because "common sense" is an excuse not to be educated.

    An appropriate video to watch:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uytPO0UaDM

This video is appropriate for anything related to gun accidents. It seams that people are losing their sense of whats stupid and what isnt. Even the Seals are forgeting the training that they have been given.
